05:30 - Christmas In WI

I'm Finally Home Again...

First I want to appologize to my readers that I didn't manage to hook up with while I was home. If I could have slowed down the planet or invented some other means of squeezing 27 hours out of a 24 hour day I would have.

So lets start with the beginning:

Dec 22nd, took the ride up to the airport at Osaka and departed at 1330. A bit of trivia about Osaka's airport is that it is built on a man-made island. This island has been sinking a foot-a-year since completion. Do you think the Japanese would fix this? NO, they choose to build another runway instead. "D Shirririrnips..

I arrived in Detroit, MI at 1130 on the 22nd, if that seems strange to you it should. I arrived in Detroit before I left Osaka. Finally after waiting for a few hours in that airport I flew the last leg of my trip to Green Bay's Austin Strauble Internation airport (why it's called international I couldn't guess-Canada maybe?). The coolest part about the trip wasn't the 18hrs that I spent in airplanes or at the airports but the fact that I got to see three sunsets on the same day. Once in Osaka, then Detroit, finally in GB. I went from a mild 50 degrees in Japan to -3 degrees in Green Bay when I finally touched down. SWEET.

The best part of waking up at Blayne's house is Jeremy in the morning..

I had the best of WI while I was home. I stayed with my brother until Christmas eve day and then we headed over to the parents house. They up and moved on me again so I wasn't so sure where they lived any more. I'm seeing a pattern here, I go to college, they moved, I go to Japan they move..it's enough to give a guy a complex.

View of the new home. That is a large soybean field to the right..I am in Tofu heaven

Two shots of home, Dad took the summer shot. I helped mom and Dad build a deck while I was home. It was good to get some exercise.
It was so great to see Mom & Dad after a year and a 1/2. This makes for the longest stretch away from home.

Christmas things up at the cottage
They made up for it quickly in classic style with an eat, eat, eat philosophy that would put most McD's addicts to shame. I GAINED over 12lbs in the time I was home (that's nearly a pound a day). If that's what I have to look forwards too I'm never coming home again.

The family, AND the REAL family. Merry Christmas everyone.

Boog gushing over his gift.. you can see his brain through his nose if you zoom in.
I did have some goals while I was home, talk about grad school, eat, visit with friends from around the state, eat, buy stuff to bring back home for the kids and teachers and finally to eat as much ethnic food as possible. I think I got about 70% of what I wanted done. I didn't see as many friends as I wanted, talked about grad school a little, but enough to help me decided mostly in staying a finally year in Japan (3 total). I did get to eat a bit, I was breathing and sweating salsa by the time I left. I had Dad's spagetti/mom's lasaugna (sp?), Chinese (x2), Pizza from the Glass Nickle (Cardiac Arrest) and mexican (x3 if you count Taco bell).

The Glass Nickle--Cardiac Arrest
Pepperoni, sausage, bacon, ham & extra cheese. My heart actually stopped 2 times while eating this.
The wicked looking guy is Ed-if you want a good time, see this guy.

Sadly, I missed out on Middle Eastern, African, Indian, and Thai foods..:( Probably best that way.

I made a glorious survey of WI, including the winter treats of 2 blizzards and 2 ice storms while I was home. I had the use of a Lincoln LS rental car that even Bo and Luke Duke would have had trouble finding the limits to. From Green Bay I went to my parents and on Christmas night I made Shiratamadango with bean sauce then the next day Miso soup both Japanese food and both turned out fine. Then up to the summer house in Hayward, WI.

Me at the Fishing Hall of Fame in Hayward. That is Santa in the fishes' mouth behind me. People have even been classy enough to get married in that mouth.

Some catkins up at the lake

Who could forget the candy shop..mmmm calories..makes my teeth hurt thinking about it.
I saw some relatives made Japanese curry rice for my uncle and they all liked it. I picked up a ton of fudge and candy from tremblays to bring home to Japan. The teachers liked it by the way.

(from left to Right) My waffles being made by Aunt Ellen - who hates cooking. I sure missed waffles. Aunt Barb and Alex. Me and Kadi, she got a Christmas-wake-up-grundy from me..what a great guy huh?

After that I went back to Green Bay for New Years which was a bust...but I downed 3 Manhattens while at the bar waiting for dinner (3hrs waiting ) so it was almost a party.

After GB I was down to Madison where I was caught in my 2nd ice storm..this time I was on the roads when it happened. Every major road into Madison had 10+ car pile ups on it. I parked my car on a hill when I finally arrived and when it was time to leave I found it impossible to talk across the street to my car it was too slippery. Being in Madison was nice and quiet times seeing old friends. Talking about Grad School and just relaxing. I went to aikido while I was in town and many people didn't recognize me. One of the students even interviewed me like I was a perspective new student. Good stuff.

I left Madison and headed over to Wales, WI to drop off a few presents and see my old friends the Webers and their kids. The boys are sure getting big. That family was happy and healthy and I indulged in a vast quantity of bacon and other delightful swine products.

Reese and Mike Weber. Reese is getting a diaper check at the moment. Looks fun huh?
After Madison it was up to Sheboygan where I had the delight of my 2nd blizzard. This one dropped about 5" on us. Sure was pretty, I wish I had woken up earlier for it..but I needed my lazy sleep.

the 5" of white I got in Sheboygan.

a. A sunset on the way back to GB from Sheboygan.
b. Dad zonked out after eating dinner the last night.
c. Dinner the last night. Dad's sauce + Mom lasagna = wonderful bricks of food. What a great end to a good vacation. Now back to the stair climber for me.

I had Mexican food that was for the first time in my life too hot to eat..but I did eat it and I am better for it. I made the last leg of my trip back to Green Bay where I flew out on the 9th and arrived finally back home on the 10 of January, cold, tired, but home. I hope you all have a happy new year and are taking the time to make as many memories as I am. See you whenever..
