I wanted to go skiing while I was in Japan and yesterday was my chance. I and a friend (eventually his girlfriend too) were nice enough to let me tag along up north. We left Friday night; my friend drove the way up to Osaka and we caught a few hours of snooze. We set about the last leg of the trip at 3ish. So far so good.
Thanks to great training by my mother I entered a state of deep meditation i.e. sleep. Those of you that know me well know that I can find this sort of sleep under nearly any circumstances without exception or position. Thusly, I slept until the car stopped and I opened my eyes to a sight like back home.
SNOW!!
and lots of it! So the snowchains went on (a first for me) and on we went. Got to the hill rented the goods and I thought (since my friends told me it was so great) I should open my mind a bit and try snowboarding.
Those not in the know, this is where you strap both of your feet onto a fatter surf-board like ski and use it to find the 'perfect,' groove down the hill sliding gracefully back and forth like leaf falling from a tree.
That's what the ad says, but the reality of it is a lot of frustration, no grace and incredible amount of falling down and monsterous difficulty getting up again. Still it wasn't too bad and I was starting to get it quickly enough not to tear my hair out and throttle the people within reach.
So we went down about 1/4 of the hill then went to go down from the very top which was breathtaking

EXCEPT...
I should have know, I should have listened to the little voice. As I tried to get on the chairlift (3 person) I was 'bumped' off. My fault I was worried about the people next to me more than making sure my butt was in the right place at the right time. Still nothing wrong but a bit of damaged pride. Rode the lift in style all by myself (since I'm a clod see above) and finally arrived at the top and was pumped..getting ready to leave the chair, have to hurry people are behind me can't be in the way.. going, going, oops falling, falling, ..
CRACK!
I fall down right on the bindings of my board and flatten the muscles of my thigh between all 180lbs of me (and most important the hard bone of my femur) and the hard aluminum binding.
I want to go again once I can walk properly, but I don't think I'll let anything or anyone every bind my legs together again. That is only fit for POW's and small children.

1 day later
I felt pain beyond my wildest dream and wanted to cry-throw up just lie there. So, I finally limped down the hill (I did manage to ski it sort of) and that was the end of my day. We more or less went straight home and I drifted off into an asprine cocktail of my own design.I want to go again once I can walk properly, but I don't think I'll let anything or anyone every bind my legs together again. That is only fit for POW's and small children.
