So much for pedestrian humor, I invited about 6 people over to my house for dinner. Of the 6 odd people only these three gorgeous women decided to keep the dinner date and I'm a better man for it I suppose. Considering I managed pigeon Japanese the entire night from 1800 - 2230 when we finished karaoke I pretty muched ruled the day and the only rooster in the coop. Although I am notoriously uncool as most will attest to perhaps I only ruled the day in my mind.
A bit about the ladies from the limits of conversation: Rena likes bicycling a crazy amount and is as close to a Japanese hippy as I can imagine. I like Japanese hippies in this case since she smelled wonderful -didn't have dreadlocks or reek of splif and best of all was very friendly. As I said she likes bikes and in college biked around every island (main island) except down in Okinawa. She also did some time biking in Alaska. Next is Mutsumi, who spent some time in England, likes beer and is good at singing the equivilant to Japanese country music :) She wore strange shoes, but that not outstanding, is probably the most lovely creature I have met in Japan today..spring must be in the air. lol Finally, Mutsumi's sister, I know only she's living in Kyoto at the moment and is younger than Mutsumi. There's a few other things, but it would only be funny to have been here for them.

*pinches nose furiously*
For dinner I made okonomiyaki where in my most humble opinion was
toppings included ほたて (scallops), Beef, kimchi, and cheese (!). It was great and I plan to cook it when I'm home for good, you are all invited to help yourself.

The one with the red stuff is kimchi. That's actually the bottom, it get's flipped and then dried fish, sauce and dried seaweed is sprinkled on top. The other picture is the ready to eat version. The heat causes the fish flakes to 'dance,' which is pretty cool.
An update after one week here is my poor leg. It always itches now and I'm looking forward to this guinea worm to eat its way out of my leg finally. I'm happy they didn't have to amputate. I thank a diet of bratwurst, beer and beer-battered, deep-fried cheese-curds for my superb capillary system. For without it I'm certain I would be dead now.
nasty, imagine what it would
be like if I was easy to bruise.

The last two shots are from this afternoon which tops off my list of good weekends. I took my 初段 today for iaido. I passed by what grace of what power I cannot say. Afterwards I had coffee with some of the locals including one of the more powerful budo sensei's in the area. He was interesting, old, the eyes were piercing still, he had an interesting upperlip which was soft mostly and had an ape like quality. The most amazing were his hands. Even after so many years of life his hands had a fluidness and viper like quality when they moved. No dawdling no wasted movements, an economy of movement that can only come from a life long devotion to studying one's spirit in hopes of being a more perfected soul.
After the test I was inspired to head up to 日の岬 park which means sun peninsula (I think) and took these snaps of the sunset. I was hoping to find some plum flowers, but no luck before it got too dark. Next time, perhaps next weekend.
