I have a day of vacation today although god knows why. It's raining and dull and I should go outside and find some trouble to get into but the rain has stolen my motivation.
On the upside I had two recent nights of dreams that were worth having. I can't speak as to why my dreams have improved since coming to Japan. Perhaps its the combination of strange stimulus and mild stress.. or perhaps I choose to be more aware of it since the dreams tend to be more honest than my daily life here. Yesterday's dream was strange in that everyone in it was acting just as they would if it had really happened, with a few dream like exceptions of course. I some how magically teleported back to home for the day. Everything was just as I remembered it in New London were I grew up with the exception almost everything was underwater. For whatever reason this didn't bother me since I had no trouble breathing and moving was weightless like flying. I did have the wet sensation, but it wasn't cold that I recall. Very comfortable gliding throught he halls of my elementary school towards the library which I needed to talk to Mrs. Fossum. Mrs. Fossum never worked in my elementary she was a beautiful older lady that worked in my JrHS Library. For some reason she was younger in my dream, well her hair was younger I don't think anything else about her was young just her hair. After talking about getting posters for school to take back to Japan. The one about reading that were the rage in schools 10 years back that had the famous people endorsing strange books.. after that I ran into my mom. She was really surprised to see me, but other than we talked for a bit, she asked how long I was in town and then the dream got blurry and I woke up. It was nice to see so many places and people I hadn't seen in so long.
Yesterday after a fashion me and another ALT went down to the city south of where I live. A nice place called Tanabe. After hanging out there and playing with a few of my friend's students in the arcade we went to shirahama to the beach to just chill. It was a good day for the beach. I got a little burnt, but it mostly tanned out by today. Dinner was great and eventually we made it home and everyone seemed happy to get back to where they needed to go.

A big snake I saw swimming
in the river as Joe and I went towards
the train station in his town.
Never seen anything like this before, I
would have liked to check it out, but the train was coming.
This is the yukatta that I finally finished last Monday. I started it last fall and just kinda putzed around with it until Monday when I decided to finish it off-right or wrong-it's done. This is the back (obviously) and that obi (belt) I got from my iaido teacher for passing my test. It's a cool summer kimono and I made it myself. I'm pretty happy with it really and I probably could make another one if I wanted to it wasn't too hard once I worked through the pattern directions.:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:
Here is the front of the yukatta, not particularly formal since it is a summer item. Very cool, very comfortable and you tend not to wear much if anything underneath it. The pattern is based off of the writing of an old poem. Of course it's hard for Japanese to understand the poem much less a foreigner that doesn't speak or read Japanese. Sorry. I'm sure it's just a list of knock-knock jokes or some other ancient form of spam like the emails we get today.:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:_:

The final shot of Joe on the rocks at Shirahama beach. Come July the beach will be standing room only and the ocean will be a human soup of people. No thanks. Right now the water was fridged and the only people swimming were little kids in the surf.
thanks for stopping by. I did read in my comments from the previous post that the New Pope stopped in and liked my pictures. Long live the iron Pope.
